Choose a natural shampoo that builds up a good lather to carry unwanted material away. Wash hair as you normally would by lathering and thoroughly getting into the scalp. Squeeze water out of the ends of your dreadlocks to help the drying process. As your hair lengthens your wet dreadlocks will become increasingly heavier. Sectioning your hair into for example four parts will make the task easier. Literally scrubbing your dreadlocks together in bunches will do wonders for thoroughly cleaning your hair.

You may wait about three to four weeks before your first wash. This would provide time for your hair to set and get use to the form. When ready, be gently and let your running water and shampoo do most of the work until your dreadlocks are cured.

Coconut oil is a great choice to dramatically reduce the amount of dandruff created while keeping your hair shiny and moisturized. Other natural oils however such as argon oil, black seed oil and olive oil will also provide beneficial treatment for dry flaky scalp.

You may purchase apple cider vinegar for an ACV wash. This will help put the link and unwanted residue to the surface of the hair making it easier to pick out. For deeply rooted lint you may use a tweezer to carefully remove the lint.

Reduce residue built up in your hair by using an all natural clarifying (transparent) shampoo of your choice. It is very important not to use conditioner or any 2-in-1's that are on the market.
